Our Mission

We believe that working with color on the web should be intuitive, accessible, and enjoyable. For too long, designers and developers have struggled with color spaces that don't match human perception — HSL's uneven lightness, RGB's device dependency, and the muddy gradients that result from interpolating in the wrong color space.

OKLCH changes all of that. It's a perceptually uniform color space that makes it easy to create accessible, consistent, and beautiful color systems. Our mission is to make OKLCH accessible to everyone — not just color scientists — by building free, well-designed tools that handle the complexity for you.

What We Built

OKLCH Color Tools is a comprehensive suite of free color tools for the modern web:

Why OKLCH?

OKLCH is a cylindrical representation of the Oklab color space, created by Björn Ottosson in 2020. It was designed to fix the perceptual flaws of existing color spaces:

  • Perceptual uniformity: Equal lightness values look equally bright across all hues — something HSL cannot do
  • Predictable palettes: Even lightness steps produce visually even color scales, making 50-950 systems trivial
  • Wide gamut: OKLCH can describe Display-P3 colors that HSL and RGB cannot reach
  • Smooth gradients: Interpolating in OKLCH avoids the muddy midtones of RGB interpolation
  • Accessibility: Contrast ratios are more predictable because lightness is perceptually uniform

When Tailwind CSS v4 moved its entire default palette to OKLCH in January 2025, it signaled that this is the future of color on the web. We're here to help the community make that transition.

Our Values

Free ForeverAll of our tools are free to use, with no accounts, no paywalls, and no usage limits. We believe good tools should be accessible to everyone.
Privacy FirstAll color processing happens in your browser. Your color data never leaves your device. We don't track you, and we don't sell data.
Open by DefaultOur code is open source. We document our methods, cite our sources, and welcome contributions from the community.
Accessible to AllWe design for accessibility from the start — keyboard navigation, screen reader support, and color contrast that meets WCAG standards.

The Team

OKLCH Color Tools is built and maintained by a small team of designers and developers who are passionate about color, accessibility, and the open web. We're not a big company — we're a community-driven project that exists to make the web a more colorful place.

We're always looking for feedback, bug reports, and contributions. If you'd like to get involved, we'd love to hear from you.
